Mamie Echevarria

NAUGATUCK — Mamie Echevarria of Naugatuck passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at home on Thursday, April 29, 2021 surrounded by family. Mamie was born in Chester, N.J., in 1947, daughter of the late Alfred and Edith Helt.

They moved to Beacon Falls in 1966. She eventually settled in Naugatuck, where she made her home and worked at Waterbury Buckle ITW Plastiglide in Waterbury for more than 20 years.

Mamie was a hardworking, devoted grandmother and mom who raised four children. She always put family first. In her spare time, Mamie enjoyed crocheting, playing her guitar, watching TV game shows and bingo. She also enjoyed Hallmark movies, country music, drawing, Dunkin coffee, and egg with sausage sandwiches. She loved spending time with her great-grandbabies, especially Alaina who she called “Gamma’s baby.”

Mamie leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law, Chico and Tracey Echevarria of Naugatuck; daughter, Wendy Sue Echevarria and fiancé, Jim Vogel, of Marlborough; and daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Russell Langhans of Fair Haven, Vt.; and her bonus son, Jesse Echevarria. She was predeceased by her son, Ricky Echevarria, and leaves behind her daughter-in-law, Heather Echevarria of Naugatuck. In addition to her children, Mamie leaves behind nine grandchildren, Kala Bernier and husband, Grayling, Alyssa Echevarria (Matthew), Alexis Perry (Josh), Barbara Villalba and husband, Bobby, Aaron Echevarria (Kathy), Jocelyn Boulanger, Tyler Kozlowski and fiancé, Cassondra Sabia, Airika Echevarria, and Madison Langhans; along with nine great-grandchildren whom she loved and adored.

Mamie will be sadly missed but forever in our hearts.
