WOODBURY — Mrs. Ferol J. (Martin) Slekis, 78, of Lynns Corner Road, passed away peacefully at her home, Friday, Feb. 3, 2017. She was the wife of Donald J. Slekis.
Ferol was born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., April 28, 1938, daughter of the late Earl and Ruth (Thompkins) Martin. A resident of Woodbury for 49 years, she began her career as a corporate secretary at the Oakville Pin Shop’s IBM Dept., worked for Manpower, and retired from RJ Guerrera after over 15 years of service. She loved hummingbirds and was a collector of hummingbird memorabilia. A loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother, she was devoted to her family and as an avid photographer, documented their lives and adventures in countless albums and scrapbooks.
Besides her husband of over 54 years, she leaves two sons, Steven Slekis and his wife, Stephanie, of Naugatuck, Scott Slekis and his wife, Deanna, of Fairfield, N.J.; a daughter, Cheryl Jurasek and her husband, David, of Watertown; six grandchildren, Ashley Philbert, Stephanie Morley, Brittney Gustafson, Troy Gustafson, Anthony Slekis, and Nicole Slekis; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 10, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown. Burial will follow in North Cemetery, Woodbury. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday evening 5 to 8 p.m.
