Letter: Quaint setting will be lost

To the editor,

Quaint, picturesque, rural, these are words and images we use to describe Oxford and surrounding communities. All this will be lost if we allow CPV to fill their coffers at our expense.

Picture driving along route 84 and in some other local areas seeing the emission stacks of this huge power complex built on one of the highest points in the area looming over our communities, and during the colder months seeing those stacks belching vapor hundreds of feet in the air. Vapor containing condensation and pollutants.

Can we continue to believe that we are still rural and quaint? Or might we possibly be labeled as an industrial area?

It won’t matter where you live in Oxford, Middlebury, Beacon Falls, Southbury or Naugatuck. Whether you live 100 feet from it or 10 miles from it, this plant and its byproducts, will affect our landscape. Don’t think that if you don’t see it won’t affect you.

I believe we should not go down without fighting to retain our rural character, and protect our environment and our way of life.

Northern Oxford does contain light industry that is tucked away and almost invisible. There is an existing right to build a smaller plant. That’s what was originally approved. Not this overwhelming power plant with it’s pollutants that CPV wants to heap upon us.

Jan. 15 6 p.m. at Oxford High School will be our opportunity to voice our concerns and discontent about this power plant. Please be there.
