PROSPECT — Prospect Public Library will feature an exhibit of paintings by Elaine Ramsey in the Irene Boardman meeting room throughout May.

Ramsey is a self-taught artist who began painting in 1960 and attended classes at Paier College of Art in Hamden. When she began painting, she worked with pallet knives and brushes. In 1970, her style changed to realism art with landscapes, seascapes and Victorian scenes. Although preferring to work in oil, she has also worked in watercolor and India ink.

Ramsey taught watercolor and colored pencil classes at her condo’s community center in Florida. Her paintings have been exhibited at local banks, libraries, stores, fairs, schools, convalescent centers and businesses in Waterbury and surrounding areas.

In January 1999, a painting titled “Unity Circle,” which hangs in Hopeville Church in Waterbury, was featured in the Waterbury Republican-American. Many commissioned paintings are in private homes throughout the United States and in Germany and Portugal. She has also done paintings of homes for the Watertown Historical Society’s house tours.

Ramsey is a member of the Watertown Art League, the Cheshire Art League, Classic Arts of Trumbull and SCAN of Newtown.

Prospect library is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 to 5, Tuesday and Thursday from 10 to 7, and Saturdays from 10 to 3 during the academic year.
