John George Muckle Jr.

John George Muckle Jr., 86, passed away on Dec. 8, 2018. He was the husband of the late Marilyn (McCarthy) Muckle. They were married on May 19, 1956 and welcomed seven children into their family, which they raised in Prospect.

Mr. Muckle graduated from Crosby High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He worked as an electrician at several companies including Waterbury Mfg., Pratt & Whitney, Electric Boat, Uniroyal, Waterbury Rolling Mills and Whyco Chromium. He also owned and operated the Carvel Store in Prospect with Marilyn.

In Jack’s youth he caddied at the Waterbury Country Club and became a talented golfer. He also loved music, yard work, going to the casino with Marilyn and to the island, his St. Bernard dogs, and especially, family gatherings.

During his life he set aside time serving as a volunteer firefighter for the Prospect Volunteer Fire Department and volunteered at St. Anthony Church. He was chauffeur to numerous friends and family and visited with the sick or lonely. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Jack will be forever remembered as a man of few words, with a memorable chuckle, having a huge heart and helping those in need.

He was the oldest of four siblings born to the late John G. Muckle and Adele (Sniekus) Muckle on Jan. 13, 1932. He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Ann Muckle; a brother, Ronald Muckle, and sister-in-law, Lucille (McCarthy) Houser.

John is survived by children, Virginia (Kevin) Coyle, Diane (Chris) Berube, Janet (Benny) Terkildsen, Jacalyn Norton, Carolyn (Chris) Buchholz, John Muckle III (Leda Eizenberg); siblings, Roy Muckle, Carol Grant; in-laws, Arlene Muckle, Janet and John McDonald; grandchildren, Dayna, Sarah, Sheena, Angela, Tessa, Christopher, Lindsay, Ian, Rhys, Kory, Crystal, Jamie, Kyle, Tyler, Theodore, Katja, and nine great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind six nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, 2018, burial immediately following at Prospect Cemetery, 1 Union City Road, Prospect. There are no calling hours, and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.
