Naugatuck Special Olympics competed in the Summer Games held at Southern Connecticut State University on June 9 and 10 bringing home medals and ribbons. Jonathan Dyer Gray of Prospect won the Citizen’s News’ annual Draw Your Dad coloring contest in the 9 to 12 year old age group.
Lauren Sanchez of Naugatuck won the Citizen’s News’ annual Draw Your Dad coloring contest in the 6 to 8 year old age group. Jonathan Dyer Gray of Prospect won in the 9 to 12 year old age group.
Owen Burke of Beacon Falls won the Citizen’s News’ annual Draw Your Dad coloring contest in the 3 to 5 year old age group.
A fundraiser was held June 14 at Ayash-man Restaurant in Naugatuck to raise money for the borough’s Fourth of July celebration.
On June 3 the Naugatuck Chamber of Commerce held its 7th Annual Duck Day and Race in Naugatuck. Richard Oakley, of Torrington, was the $5,000 prize winner of the duck race. On June 5 Hidden Acres Therapeutic Riding Center in Naugatuck celebrated the official opening of its new sensory trail system. The trail system was designed by occupational therapy students at Quinnipiac University, and sponsored by the Petit Foundation and HTS construction. The trail, named in memory of Michaela Petit, has six stations along the way, which allow riders with special needs to stop while on horseback and address various sensory challenges. Dr. William Petit cut the ribbon officially opening the trail system. Pictured, rider Emily Bottinick is interviewed by Scot Haney of Channel 3 for station’s Better Connecticut segment June 5.
The 2012 Liberty Bell Award was presented to Irene Horgan of Naugatuck on behalf of the judges of the New Britain Judicial District and the Greater New Britain Bar Association during Law Day ceremonies at New Britain Superior Court on May 1. Horgan serves as official court reporter for the New Britain Judicial District.
