Softball
Woodland has upped the ante on its Naugatuck Valley League domination in the first half of the season. The Hawks did not allow a run in three blowouts last week to run their record to 7-0. Last Wednesday, Woodland easily beat St. Paul, 10-0. Senior ace Katie Alfiere allowed only one hit and struck out 12, while sophomore Angie Wirsing notched an RBI single. On Friday, the Hawks blanked Torrington, 7-0. Alfiere threw a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts and also stroking a single and a triple with an RBI. Sophomore Emily Wirsing and senior Aubrey Roulanaitis had two hits and an RBI each while senior Kaiti Lembo also tallied a pair of hits. Alfiere and the Hawks also dominated Watertown on Monday, winning, 14-0. Alfiere fanned 11 and added three hits and two RBI. Junior Lindsay Boland had three hits and two RBI while Lembo notched a pair of hits and three RBI. The Hawks have allowed just seven runs all season but face their toughest three games yet this week, hosting Wolcott before traveling to Seymour and Naugatuck.

Track and Field
The Hawks boys’ track and field squad is still perfect as Woodland swept another quad-meet Monday. The Black and Gold dominated, beating St. Paul (138-7), Kennedy (116-34), and Wolcott (105-45), to improve its record to 8-0. Event winners included Chris Savvidou in the 100; the 4-by-400, 4-by-800, and 4-by-100 relay teams; Dan Park in the 200, long jump, and triple jump; Brandon Fowler in the 300 and 110 hurdles; Tyler Slapikas in javelin; and Jake Pinho in pole vault. The boys will send their best to the Penn Relays this weekend before heading to Naugatuck to take on the Hounds and Crosby on Tuesday in a meet which will likely decide the NVL regular season championship.

Golf
The Woodland golfers notched their first win of the season, defeating Naugatuck, 186-194, last Thursday at the par-36 Hop Brook Golf Course. Anthony Memoli gained his second medal in as many matches by shooting a 41. Nick Veneri carded a 46 while Kyle Mascoli shot a 47 for the Hawks. Pat O’Dell rounded out the scoring with a 52. Woodland’s schedule gets busier this week as the Hawks face Wolcott, Holy Cross, Torrington, and Shepaug Valley.
