BEACON FALLS – Woodland leads Ansonia, 21-19, at halftime of a game suspended due to lightning.

The second half will be played today at Woodland with the Chargers receiving the kickoff at 4 p.m.

The lead changed hands five times in the opening half, including four times in the second quarter. Woodland scored the go-ahead touchdown with 1:22 left in the half on a 13-yard swing pass from Jack DeBiase to Jake Pinho. Pinho bounced off five Ansonia defenders en route to the end zone.

DeBiase rushed for 107 yards and a 3-yard touchdown on 19 attempts while also connecting on seven of 10 passes for 85 yards. Craig Genz ran five times for 50 yards, including a 12-yard score.

Elliot Chudwick completed just two of nine passes in the half but both found the end zone, hooking up with Andrew Matos for a 27-yard touchdown in the first quarter and a 23-yard score in the second.

Montrell Dobbs gained 48 yards on 10 carries, including a 22-yard touchdown with 3:43 left in the second. Arkeel Newsome racked up 75 yards on just two attempts, one of which was a 64-yard burst to set up Chudwick’s second scoring strike. The Chargers failed on two point-after attempts.

Thursday’s game was originally scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. but was pushed ahead to 5 p.m. due to impending storms. Officials delayed the start of the second half several times due to lightning before the game was suspended.
