BEACON FALLS — Finding the back of the net hasn’t been a problem early this season for the Woodland boys soccer team.

The Hawks got off to a 3-0-1 start thanks in part to an attack that scored 21 goals during that stretch and a defense that allowed just one goal in each game.

John Walsh scored Woodland’s only goal in a 1-1 tie at Seymour on Oct. 3, but plenty of others inked their names into the scorebook in later victories over the division’s two Ansonia schools.

The Hawks routed O’Brien Tech, 5-1, on Oct. 6 thanks to two goals apiece from Preston Alessio and Luca Cambra. Andi Krivca also scored in that game, while Nathaniel Smith and Alex Farr each assisted on a pair of goals. Riley Muricchio made one save.

The firepower continued Oct. 8 in a 7-1 victory at Ansonia. Alessio stayed hot with two goals and an assist, while Cambra, D.J. Mulligan and Nathan Swercewski found the back of the net once each. Mulligan and Muricchio combined to hold the Chargers to one goal.

“We have a lot of returning players filling in who are playing well, as well as a lot of young talent stepping up to the plate,” Woodland senior captain Nathaniel Smith said. “So far we’ve played well, but I think there is still a lot of room for us to improve.”

The Hawks are set for another pair of road matches Oct. 13 at Oxford and Oct. 15 at Derby.
