Valley Fusion teams make mark in tourneys

The 16U Valley Fusion team won the “Summer Finale” tournament held July 30 and 31 in Williamsport, Pa. The tournament included 47 teams from nine states, including 16 teams in the 16U bracket. The 16U Fusion beat the #1 seed Mystic Blue, from Mount Laurel, N.J., 4-0 in the championship game.

The team also placed second in the Warwick, R.I. “Summer Slam” tournament in June, third in Wallingford’s “State of Shock” in June; second in New Milford’s “2nd Annual Jade’s Jamboree” in July, and third in New Haven’s “Summer Ruckus” held in Meriden in July. The 16U Valley Fusion team finished the 2011 season with a tournament record of 20-10-1.

The 14U Valley Fusion team won the 16U Central Valley Fastpitch League Tournament Championship held July 30 and July 31 in Southington. The team defeated the Southington Lightning in the championship game 5-2. The win was the third straight tournament championship of the season for the Fusion’s 14U team.

Valley Fusion is made up of players from Beacon Falls, Bethany, Naugatuck, and Prospect.
