The Peter J. Foley 9-10 baseball all-star team was eliminated from the Little League state tournament last week.

After winning their district and their division tournaments, the team from Foley lost to Fairfield-National — the eventual state champs — in Trumbull. The final score was 12-1, but there was a silver lining to the result.

The team could have quit and they didn’t. They put together a few hits and scored a run.

“The team was able to scratch and claw and get on the scoreboard,” Foley manager Chris Main said. “They kept playing, and that was great to see.”

Main also spoke about the experience of winning two rounds.

“Our goal was to win a game or two at the district level, and then feel good about winning a game or two,” Main said. “The team was amazing.”

Advancing in the state tournament at this age level is satisfying on many levels, according to Main.

“The other coaches and the parents were as fantastic as the kids,” Main added. “Winning games like this is great for Foley and great for Little League baseball in Naugatuck.”
