Hall of Fame announces Class of 2017

NAUGATUCK— The Naugatuck Hall of Fame announced the inductees into the Hall’s Class of 2017.

The inductees for the Class of 2017 are Shannon Mesaros Russell, volleyball; Gary Diaz Jr., football and baseball; Christine Walsh, swimming; Frank Meaney, football and baseball; Art Nunes, coaching, and Gordon Rossi, community volunteerism.

Naugatuck Babe Ruth beats Danbury

NAUGATUCK — Naugatuck Senior Babe Ruth defeated Danbury, 6-5, on Sunday.

Dom Musco hit a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning to win it for Naugatuck. Joe Kwaak added two doubles and a single. Jimmy Boland had a two-run single. Naugy’s pitching combined for six hits, eight strikeouts and one earned run.

Student-athletes named to all-academic team

NEW HAVEN — Four Albertus Magnus College student-athletes from Naugatuck were named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference All-Academic Team for the 2016-17 school year.

Gillian Fortier (softball), Angelina Piccirillo (women’s basketball and women’s soccer), Alexya Alves (women’s soccer) and David DeOliveira (men’s soccer) made the team.

The student-athletes selected had to maintain a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and have reached second-year academic status.
