City Hill swims to seventh at state meet

NAUGATUCK — The City Hill Middle School swim team finished seventh at the middle school state championship meet Jan. 29 at Southern Connecticut State University.

City Hill scored 492.50 points in the 14-team field. East Lyme won the championship with 1217.50 points.

The foursome of Kelly Brodeur, Haley Deller, Jaqueline Uva and Katelyn Fortney finished first (4:26.58) in the 400 free relay and second (1:58.74) in the 200 free relay.

The boys 200 free relay team of Billy Brown, Steven Herb, Ryan Vincent and Michael Hill placed fifth (2:02.25). The boys 400 free relay of Gavin McKeon, Nicholas Lauer, Ryan Vincent and Hill placed eighth. (4:57.54).

City Hill had a number of individual swimmers who finished in the top ten of their events.

Fortney finished second in the 50 freestyle (27.62) and sixth in the 50 butterfly (31.31). Hill finished fourth in the 50 freestyle (26.72) and fifth in the 100 free (101.59). Uva finished sixth overall in the 100 freestyle (1:05.45).

Divers Evan Jang and Billy Brown placed fourth and sixth, respectively.

Swimmers who also scored for City Hill include, Haley Deller (11th, 50 backstroke and 12th, 50 breaststroke); Steven Herb (22nd, breaststroke); Kelly Brodeur (12th, 100 freestyle and 21st, 50 backstroke); Alissa Grzeika (22nd, butterfly); Ryan Vincent (13th, 100 IM and 15th, 50 butterfly).

The medley relay teams of Herb, Jang, Jacob Hall and Brown, and Alyssa Jones, Kayla Bartlett, Alissa Grzeika and Davinity Smallwood placed 12th (2:46.93) and 14th (3:01.07), respectively.

Softball Little League announces registration

The Woodland Valley Softball Little League, formerly Prospect/Beacon Falls Little League, is holding registration for the spring season.

The league is open to girls that live in Beacon Falls and Prospect that are 4 years old as of Jan. 1, 2010 and older. Registration can be done at www.leaguelineup.com/woodlandvalleysoftball until March 15.

Naugatuck Babe Ruth holding baseball signups  

NAUGATUCK — Naugatuck Babe Ruth will hold baseball signups this month.

Registration is Feb. 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ion Community Room, 270 Church St. Boys ages 13 through 15 from Naugatuck, Prospect and Beacon Falls are eligible to play.
