Sibby’s wins Naugatuck Babe Ruth title

NAUGATUCK — Sibby’s defeated Brown Roofing last week in a best-of-three series to win the Naugatuck Babe Ruth championship.

Sibby’s won game three of the series, 10-0, to claim the crown. Zach Royka pitched a complete game, two-hitter with four strikeouts and three walks for Sibby’s. He also went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI. Brian Andrade and Spencer Hensley both went 2-for-4 at the plate.

Sibby’s took the first game, 8-3. Royka gave up seven hits and struck out six in a complete-game effort. Andrade scored two runs and Royka added three RBI and two runs scored. Matt Teixeira and Mike Natkiel both went 2-for-3 for Brown Roofing and Justin Carasone scored two runs.

Brown Roofing tied the series in after coming back from down three runs in the seventh to win game two 6-5. Tyler Markey singled in the winning run. Mike Natkiel pitched a complete game for Brown Roofing. He gave up six hits and struck out seven. Dawson Sigetti led Sibby’s with three RBI and John Brazielle scored two runs.

Union City Little League holding sign-ups

NAUGATUCK — Union City Little League announced registration dates for fall baseball and softball.

Players can register Aug. 12 and Aug. 19 from 6 to 8 p.m., and Aug. 13, Aug. 20 and Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Joe Joy Complex Clubhouse, 165 Morris St. Children ages 4 to 11 can play. T-ball and baseball are open to children that live east of the Naugatuck River in Naugatuck and the south end of Waterbury. Softball is open to children from anywhere in Naugatuck. The cost is $80 per player.

Basketball club seeks teams for tournament

NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck All-Stars Basketball Club is looking for players and teams interested in playing in the High School Divisions Summer Slam Basketball Tournament.

The tournament, which is sponsored by the club, is Aug. 21 starting at 10 a.m. in Harwinton. The cost is $25 per player or $250 per team of 10 players. Three games are guaranteed for each team. For more information, call Matthew Witkowski at 203-723-1621.
