Moriello named USTFCCCA Athlete of the Week
NEW ORLEANS — Naugatuck native Rosa Moriello, a junior on Boston University women’s cross country team, was named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week Oct. 14.
Moriello won the New England Championship Oct. 12 with a time of 17:13, 14 seconds clear of the next closest competitor. Moriello helped lead the Terriers to a fourth-place finish as a team. She has won both races in which she competed this year.
Piroscafo tagged as GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week
NEW HAVEN — Albertus Magnus men’s soccer senior goalkeeper Donato Piroscafo, of Naugatuck, was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday.
Piroscafo allowed just one goal all week, on a penalty kick in the Falcons 1-1 tie at Mount Ida. Piroscafo recorded 12 saves on the week as well as a shutout over Coast Guard during the week. This GNAC weekly honor is the second for Piroscafo this season.
