Round of Applause

The Red Sox-Tigers series was a terrific week and a half of baseball. Pardon me for being a guy who still enjoys pitchers’ duels, but those low-scoring games were extraordinarily exciting and for the most part very well played. Sure, it’s easy for a Sox fan to scream at the guys who are striking out more than the nerdy high school kid trying to find a prom date (that kid may or may not have been me) but at some point you have to tip your cap to some absolutely filthy pitching by the Tigers. But the Red Sox pitchers were just as good, especially in that bullpen which looked shaky at times during the regular season. Boston’s clutch hitting in the series was exactly what we remember from the 2004 team, and this team shares so many similarities with that one. On another note, this postseason has made me glad to be a sports fan independent of a city (I’m a Red Sox fan and a Jets fan, so I can stay disassociated with Boston and New York fan bases). Boston sports fans have really gotten brutal over the years. They put down their teams when they’re losing (not even after a loss, but during a game that isn’t even close to being over) and react like their first children were born after a win. Let’s find a baseline, guys.
