Girls Basketball

Naugatuck split a pair of games this week to improve to 6-5 on the season, just two wins away from returning to the state tournament. Last Friday, the Greyhounds fell to Torrington, 60-45. Lauren Piroscafo led the ‘Hounds with 22 points, including two 3-pointers, while Steph Lima added 11 points, including a 3-pointer of her own. Naugy rebounded on Tuesday night to defeat Seymour, 62-47. The Greyhounds only held a three-point lead at halftime but outscored Seymour, 35-23, in the second half to pull away with a comfortable win. Piroscafo scored a team-high 19 points while Amy Dietz had 14, Angela Piccirillo 13, and Lima eight. Naugy continues its stretch of Brass Division games when it hosts Woodland on Friday before traveling to Watertown on Wednesday.

Boys Swimming

Naugatuck improved to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the Naugatuck Valley League with a 97-88 win over Woodland on Tuesday night. Event winners for the Greyhounds included the 200 medley relay team of Mitchell Santos, Adam Branco, Matt Hall, and Eric Hanley, William Wright (100 free and 200 free), Isabelle Moody (diving), Chris Branco (500 free), the 200 free relay team of Hall, Chris Branco, Hanley, and Wright, and Santos (100 back). The ‘Hounds will host Holy Cross on Friday night in attempt to stay unbeaten in the NVL.

Boys Swimming

The Hawks are still searching for their first dual-meet victory of the season after a 97-88 loss to Naugatuck on Tuesday night. Event winners for the Hawks included Pat O’Dell (200 IM and 100 fly), Eric Dietz (50 free), Aidan Music (100 breast), and the 400 free relay team of Eric Dietz, Andrew Cullen, Pat O’Dell, and Andy O’Dell. Woodland also had a number of second-place finishes, including those by the 200 medley relay team of Jimmy Tompkins, Alan Katrenya, Music, and Pat Dietz, Eric Dietz in the 100 free, Andy O’Dell in the 500 free, Jimmy Tompkins in the 100 back, and Katrenya in the 100 breast. The Hawks will host Masuk in a nonleague meet on Friday before five road meets throughout the rest of January, starting with a meet at Crosby on Tuesday.
