Woodland softball sophomore Julia Rowley blasted a go-ahead two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to help the Hawks finish the regular season unbeaten with a 3-2 victory over Newtown on May 16.

On the hill

Naugatuck sophomore Kevin Cestari spun a four-hitter and struck out eight to lead the Greyhounds to an 11-1 victory over Watertown on May 16 in the regular season finale.

Four score

Woodland junior Ethan Stepputtis gave Crosby the what for on May 15 as he went 4-for-4 and drove in four runs to help the Hawks to a 10-2 win.

Going out in style

Naugatuck softball player Lauryn Ramalho had a great senior night against Wolcott on May 15, going 4-for-4 with two triples, three runs scored and three RBIs in a 14-2 Greyhound victory.

Shutting it down

Woodland pitcher Sam Sosnovich fired a two-hitter and struck out 15 batters as she handcuffed Seymour, 3-0, on senior night, which was May 12.

Word from the Woods

Golf – The Hawks split a pair of matches and ran their record to 3-10 on the season. On May 16, Woodland upended Wolcott, 196-227, at Farmingbury Hills. Elias Carmack led the Hawks as the medalist with a 43. Aden Ianniruberto finished up with a 49, followed by Dean Norton at 51 and Zach Sharkey at 53. Woodland was back on the links again on May 17, taking on the Waterbury co-op at Western Hills and came up on the short end of a 172-197 final margin. Norton led the Hawks with a 46. Carmack and Ianniruberto each carded a 47 while Sharkey shot 57.

Naugy Notes

Golf – The Greyhounds went up against a very tough Waterbury co-op on May 16 at Hop Brook in Naugatuck and dropped a close 187-201 decision to fall to 6-8 on the season. Vin Ferrucci shot a team-low round of 46 with Nate Testone right on his heels hitting a 47. Gino Ferrucci checked in with a 53 and Liz Nixon shot a 55. Dan Testone had a 57 and Sophia Schade finished with a 64.
