Woodland senior Ella Bernegger defended her NVL diving championship, winning the title for the second year in a row with a score of 381.12 on Nov. 2.

On the money
Woodland senior quarterback Darren Gasparri had a pin-point passing game in a 46-16 win over St. Paul on Oct. 28, completing 16 of 21 passes for 276 yards and three touchdowns.

Déjà vu
Woodland sophomore Meghan Hartnett buried the rebound off a shot from Dani Celotto in overtime for the game’s only score as the Hawks escaped the NVL semifinals with a 1-0 win over Wolcott. It was the second time in as many weeks that Harnett scored the game-winner against the Eagles, and both were 1-0 games.

Leader in the pocket
Naugatuck senior quarterback Blake Stone led the Hounds to a 42-13 win over WCA on Oct. 28 at Municipal Stadium. Stone rushed for 11 yards and one touchdown and passed for 101 yards and two more touchdowns as Naugy improved to 6-1.

Making it count
Woodland senior wide receiver Jace Molcyk hauled in nine catches for 178 yards and three touchdowns in a spectacular performance in front of the hometown crowd on Oct. 28, helping the Hawks to a 46-16 win over St. Paul.

Football – The Hawks improved to 6-1 on the season with a convincing 46-16 win over St. Paul on Oct. 28. Quarterback Darren Gasparri was on the mark, completing 16 of 21 passes for 276 yards and three touchdowns. Jace Molcyk had a career night, latching onto nine passes for 178 yards and all three touchdowns through the air. Defensively, Kole Molcyk returned a fumble 38 yards for a score. Brett Lato threw a touchdown pass of 40 yards to Dave O’Brien. Woodland geared up for a showdown with Holy Cross, also 6-1, on Nov. 4 at home.

Naugy Notes:
Football – The Greyhounds used a balanced attack to overcome WCA, 42-13, at Municipal Stadium on Oct. 28. Quarterback Blake Stone, pictured below, got the party started by scoring on a one-yard plunge, and then opened it up throwing for 101 yards and two touchdowns. Cayden Martin showed his versatility on offense, churning up 131 yards of real estate and rushing for one touchdown while hauling in a 68-yard touchdown strike from Stone. Mike Deitelbaum bulled his way ahead for 79 yards and one touchdown with Jaylen Martinez adding 31 rushing yards and one touchdown. Nate Gendron caught two passes for 33 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown. The Greyhounds (6-1) were looking to keep the momentum going on the road against Torrington on Nov. 4.
