Mo’s Moments
The top player
Naugatuck senior Mia Grella showed what it means to be ranked as the No. 1 singles player on the Greyhound tennis team as she compiled a successful 12-3 record this season. Two of those losses were to NVL champion Reece Yost of Wolcott.

No hurdle too big
Naugatuck senior Allison Murphy went out in style, winning the Class L 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles on June 1. Murphy helped lead the girls team to their best finish in a state meet (fourth place) for coach Ralph Roper.

Big bang
Woodland senior Ryan Montini blasted a fourth inning three-run home run on May 31 in the opening game of the Class M state tournament against Seymour. The Hawks beat the rival Wildcats, 9-1.

Leaping to victory
Naugatuck senior Ese Onakpoma led the boys in the Class L state meet on June 1, winning the long jump and triple jump. He placed second in the high jump.

Big hits in big situations
Woodland sophomore Breanna Thurston made the most of her opportunities, belting a single and a triple, good for four RBI on June 1 in her team’s 15-1 Class M second round home win over Plainville.
