Woodland junior Chloe Poulos posted a blistering time of 19 minutes, 4 seconds to take first and lead the Hawks Oct. 9 to a 15-45 victory over Holy Cross in the season opener.

Boys soccer
The Greyhounds improved to 3-1-1 with victories over St. Paul and Wolcott by a combed 18-1 margin. Daniel Davy scored three goals and dished off an assist Oct. 13 in a 10-1 over St. Paul. Mateus Filho scored a pair of goals. Vinny Dos Santos, Ryan Kenelly and Tim Rosa had a goal and an assist each. Justin Carroll and Ryan Galiette added goals, and Dan Anderson and Jon Almeida combined for three saves in the net. Davy scored two more goals Oct. 15 in an 8-0 win against Wolcott. Rosa, Filho, Galiette, Pedro Crivella, Chris Akinduro and Ahmed Aljamal each scored goals. Anderson and Jon Almeida combined for two saves. Naugatuck is set to play Torrington Oct. 16 and Oct. 20.
Girls soccer
Naugatuck improved to 5-1 with shutout victories over Oxford, 5-0, on Oct. 12 and a 7-0 win over Derby on Oct. 14. Julianna Magalhaes led the Greyhounds with two goals against Oxford. Aaliyah Henry, Lilly Lyons and Emma Sonski added goals, and Angelina Oliveira and Noelle Jacobi had assists. Saige Winslow made 12 saves in goal. Magalhaes, Henry, Sonski, Oliveira, Layla Nemeth, Anissa Simones and Jayda Costa each scored goals against Derby. Victoria Lawson and Jacobi had assists. Naugy is set to play Seymour on Oct. 19 and Ansonia on Oct. 21.
Volleyball
Naugatuck remained perfect at 5-0 with a sweep of Watertown, 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-9), Oct. 13. Lindsey Walsh had 18 points and eight assists. Kaylee Jackson had seven kills, seven aces and 12 points. Kendall Allen had 13 points and Sam Mullin had five points. Nadia Cestari had six assists, Cara Bergin had five kills, and Alyssa Roberts had three kills. Naugatuck is set to play St. Paul Oct. 16 and Wolcott Oct. 20.

Boy soccer
Woodland remained undefeated at 5-0-1 with a 2-1 win over Oxford on Oct. 13 and a 7-0 win against Derby on Oct. 15. Preston Alessio and Alex Farr scored against Oxford and John Walsh lent an assist. D.J. Mulligan turned back 11 shots in goal. Farr and Luca Cambra each had two goals against Derby. Walsh and Kevin Torres had a goal each. An own goal by Derby rounded out the scoring. Preston Alessio and Nathaniel Smith had two assists each. Mulligan made one save. Woodland is set to play Seymour Oct. 20.
Girls soccer
Woodland improved to 6-0 with victories over Ansonia, 4-0, on Oct. 12 and Oxford, 3-1, on Oct. 14. Sara Alessio, Paige Letourneau, Casey Mulligan and Delia Kotsaftis scored against Ansonia. Aries Bell had an assist. Isabela Mejias made two saves in the net. Letourneau scored twice against Oxford. Alessio added a goal, and April Bell and Kotsaftis had assists. Mejias and Mulligan combined for five saves. Woodland is set to play Derby on Oct. 19 and Seymour on Oct. 21.
Volleyball
Woodland improved to 4-1 with sweeps of Ansonia, 3-0 (25-9, 25-4, 25-9), on Oct. 13 and Oxford, 3-0 (25-19, 25-11, 25-21), on Oct. 15. Elayna Beutel had 10 aces and seven kills against Ansonia. Kylie Bulinski had 10 aces, two kills and seven assists. Kalle Legassey added three kills, and Allyson Koliani had six assists. Beutel had 11 kills and four aces in the win over Oxford. May Dawes had four aces and eight digs. Megan Luxeder had three aces and two digs, and Sydney Harrison had three kills, an ace and three digs. The Hawks are set to play at Seymour on Oct. 22 and at Oxford on Oct. 23.
