Mo’s Moments

Records are meant to be broken

Woodland senior Dia Gawronski put on a record-breaking performance at the NVL championship swim meet last Friday as the Hawks won their first NVL title. Gawronski won gold medals in the 100 butterfly, the 500 freestyle and the 200 freestyle relay and a silver medal in the 200 medley relay. In all four races she set new Woodland school records.

A kick that will go down in history

Naugatuck senior goalie Aren Seeger did something that will not soon be forgotten. Seeger booted a ball on a free kick from about 60 yards out over the head of the Watertown keeper last Thursday in the NVL championship game for the eventual game-winning score in the Greyhounds’ 3-1 victory over the Indians.

Leading the way to victory

Naugatuck senior Mike Plasky has been a team leader all season. The Naugy quarterback led the Greyhounds to a 61-22 victory last Friday over Wolcott by passing for a touchdown, running for two touchdowns and compiling a combined 201 yards.

First collegiate goal

Former Naugatuck soccer player Mike Campos scored his first career goal in college during a 3-0 win over Becker College to help Elms College to a three-game winning streak and a postseason bid in the New England Collegiate Conference tournament.

Saving the day

Former Woodland goalie AJ Oliviera helped Elms College reach the championship game of the New England Collegiate Conference tournament. Oliviera shut down Lesley University in the semifinals as Elms won 1-0 on penalty kicks (4-2). The former Hawk came up with a game-winning save.
