Oakley wins gold at Special Olympics USA Games

NAUGATUCK — As a member of Team Connecticut, Joshua Oakley traveled to Seattle, Wash. in early July to compete in the 2018 Special Olympics USA Games. The Naugatuck resident returned home with a gold medal.

Oakley competed in track and field and won a gold medal in shot put, Special Olympics Connecticut announced in a press release.

Oakley also finished fourth in the 100 meter final, the mini javelin final, and was member of the fourth-place 4×100 relay team, the press release stated.

More than 4,000 Special Olympics athletes and coaches from all 50 states and the District of Columbia attended the USA Games, the press release stated. Team Connecticut members included 46 delegates, coaches, athletes and Unified teammates, who competed in golf, tennis, bowling, track and field, swimming, basketball and video gaming, the press release stated.
