The Naugatuck Valley league boys and girls tennis tournament are scheduled to resume Thursday after being delayed due to Tuesday’s storm.
The tournaments started Monday with the quarterfinal rounds.
The No. 1 Naugatuck girls defeated No. 8 Seymour, 6-1, in the girls quarterfinals.
Kelly Carr (8-5), Patricia Escaleira (8-3) and Kelly Redmond (8-3) earned singles wins. The teams of Sabrah Cegielski and Catarina Rego (8-2), Brielle Behuniak and Hailey Russell, and Cristina Rego and Natalie-Paradise (8-0) swept the doubles portion of the match.
Naugatuck will play the winner of the quarterfinal match between No. 4 Woodland and No. 5 Wolcott, who have yet to play due to the storm. Woodland and Wolcott are scheduled to play Thursday at 3 p.m. at Woodland with the winner playing Naugatuck in the semifinals at 5 p.m. at Woodland.
No. 2 Sacred Heart is scheduled to host No. 3 St. Paul in a seminal match Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
The final is set for Friday at Woodland.
On the boys’ side, No. 4 Woodland and No. 5 Naugatuck faced off in the quarterfinals on Monday with the Greyhounds earning a 5-3 win to advance.
Jared Monti (8-3), Jay Mezzo (8-2), Brandon Sampaio (8-6) and Tommy Martins (8-4) won singles matches for Naugatuck. The doubles team of Monti and Martins secured the win for the Greyhounds with an 8-6 victory.
For the Hawks, Josh Powanda (8-1) and Devon Polletta (8-6) earned singles wins. The duo of Powanda and Dante Polletta (8-4) picked up a win in doubles.
Naugatuck is scheduled to play at No. 1 Wolcott, the defending NVL champion, Thursday at 3:45 p.m. in the semifinals. The winner will advance to face No. 2 Torrington in Friday’s final.
