WATERBURY — Naugatuck’s last postseason hope was snuffed out Friday afternoon, the No. 2 girls’ soccer team (19-1) falling, 1-0, to No. 10 Masuk (12-2-4) in the quarterfinals of the Class L state tournament.

After a first-half draw, the Panthers tallied the lone score of the contest in the 42nd minute. The goal was credited officially to Amanda Snajder, though the ball appeared to hit off Naugy’s Isabelle Moody, who had come over to help teammate Isabella Verrilli guard Snajder along the end line to the right of the net.

Masuk keeper Emily Antenucci was not tested often but made a pair of superlative saves, both on Danielle Charette, the MVP of the Naugatuck Valley League tournament.

“I’m sorry that it’s over,” first-year Greyhounds head coach Jose Sendra said. “I’m actually mad because I know we could have beaten them. … But that’s part of competing. I have to get over it just like the girls do.”
