No. 11 Naugatuck earned a 1-0 win over No. 22 Newtown on Tuesday at Naugatuck High School in the first round of the Class LL boys soccer tournament.
Jay Barth scored the only goal of the afternoon off an assist from Freddie Longo to lead the Greyhounds to victory. Brandon Sampaio had three saves for Naugy, which will play at No. 6 Danbury in the second round Thursday at 4.
Today’s slate of state tournament action includes boys soccer games postponed from yesterday and second-round games in girls soccer and volleyball tournaments.
No. 9 Woodland hosts No. 24 Aerospace today at 2 p.m. in the first round of the Class M boys tournament. The winner will face the winner of the first-round match between No. 8 Windham and No. 25 Sheehan in the second round on Thursday.
The No. 9 Naugatuck girls soccer team will host No. 25 Bristol Central today at 3 p.m. in the second round of the Class L tournament.
In volleyball, No. 12 Woodland hits the road today to play No. 5 Waterford at 6 p.m. in the second round of the Class M tournament.
