NEW BRITAIN — The Woodland 4-by-400-meter relay team finished fourth at Monday’s State Open track meet at Willowbrook Park in New Britain to highlight the few local performances of the day.
The foursome of Nick LaPerriere, Jon Alarcon, Tim Madormo, and Eric Dietz finished in 3:24.45, more than three seconds off the winning pace set by Windsor. The Hawks’ time was nearly three seconds slower than their Class M-winning time of 3:21.48, but only three teams in the 25-team field finished faster than their seeded times.
The Lang brothers, Scott and Mike, earned the other points for Woodland. Scott, who finished second in the Class M javelin competition, placed sixth at the Open with a heave of 168 feet, 5 inches, which was nearly four feet better than his Class M mark.
Mike finished seventh in the long jump with a bound of 21-4. It was just shorter than his Class M-winning leap of 21-11.75.
The 10 points accumulated by the 4-by-400 relay and the Langs placed Woodland in a five-way tie for 17th place at the meet, which was won by Windsor.
LaPerriere and Dietz both competed in the 400, placing 10th and 11th, respectively, while the 4-by-800 relay squad of Nick Hebert, Marc Beaulieu, Andy Hale, and Adam Baz was 21st.
Two Woodland girls also competed. Jiye Park was 14th in the triple jump while Tayler Boncal was 22nd in the 400.
A number of Naugatuck athletes also competed at the State Open. Muad Hrezi earned the Greyhounds’ only points with a seventh-place finish in the 3200. He shaved almost 20 seconds off his Class L time, crossing the line in 9:28.68.
Collin Reilly and Nick Moriello both ran in the 800. Reilly was 16th and Moriello was 20th.
Briana Ritter was the only Naugatuck competitor on the girls side, finishing 14th in the discus.
