Prospect Little League signups

The 2011 spring ball signups will be held on Saturday, Feb. 5 and Saturday, Feb. 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Prospect Firehouse.

For all new players with the league, please bring a copy of a valid birth certificate for signups. New 2011 Little League rules now allow any child age 4 to play tee-ball. Players must be 4 years old before May 1.

The registration fees are $70 for each player for T-ball and AA, and $80 per player for AAA and Majors, up to $150 per family maximum. There will be a $20 late fee for registration after March 1. As part of the registration, each family is expected to participate in the League Raffle. The raffle consists of selling one book of 10 raffle tickets at $5 per ticket ($50 per book) This year’s prizes will include: Grand Prize: $1,000, 1st prize: $750, 2nd prize: $500, 3rd prize: $350 gift certificate redeemable at Shell, 4th prize: $250 gift certificate redeemable at Oliver’s Supermarket, and 5th prize: $150 gift certificate redeemable at Oliver’s Supermarket.

Player Evaluation for AAA and Majors tryouts will take place on Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Holy Trinity Church Gym located at 937 Chase Parkway in Waterbury (snow date is Sunday, Feb. 27 – same time and location). AAA evaluations will be from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Majors tryouts from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.. Any player planning to move up to Majors must tryout in person. The following AABC Travel Leagues are also being offered in addition to Little League play: Sandy Koufax – League ages 13 and 14, Pee Wee Reese – League ages 11 and 12, Willie Mays – League ages 9 and 10, and Roberto Clemente – League ages 7 and 8. Cost for players on AABC travel is $125. Please note that players participating on AABC travel must also play Little League for their respective age group. There will separate signup sheets on the days of registration for those interested in the above travel teams.

The league is seeking volunteers to assist as coaches and managers especially for the tee-ball and AA level teams. If you think you would like to coach, please contact the league President Pete Rek at (203) 808-7624, or signup at the above registration days.

Union City Little League signups

Registrations for the Union City Little League will start Friday.

Registration will be held at the Union City Clubhouse on Morris Street on Friday, Jan. 28, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Friday, Feb. 4, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

To participate in baseball children must be between the ages of 5 and 12 years old as of April 30.
To participate in softball children must be between the ages of 7 and 18 years old as of April 30.

Robert A. Cole Baseball League signups

The Robert A. Cole Baseball League is holding its final two Little League registrations the following nights: Monday, Jan. 31 (the last night without a late fee) and the final registration night of Tuesday, Feb. 7, which includes a $25 late registration fee.

The cost for registration in tball (ages 5 – 6) and coach pitch (ages 7-8) is $60 and the cost for minors (ages 9 – 10) and majors (ages 11 – 12) is $80. Age is determined by the date of May 1.
