Local Little League baseball all-star games are underway.

In the 11-12 baseball division of District 3, Peter J. Foley and Prospect won their opening-round games and advanced to the winner’s bracket. Union City and Beacon Falls dropped first-round games in the double-elimination tournament.

Foley came back to defeat Shelton-American, 4-3, last Saturday in Prospect. Down 3-0 early, Foley chipped away and scored two in the sixth to win it.

Pat Browne delivered the game-winning single in the sixth to score Corey Plasky, who walked earlier in the inning. Steven Marinaro scored the tying run on a fielder’s choice hit by Tyler McGovern.

In the fifth, Joey Kwaak hit a sac fly to score Browne, who tripled to get on base.

The two teams faced each other last year in the 10-11 baseball division.

“We knew [Shelton-American] had a good team coming back,” Foley manager Ron Plasky said. “But we’re a scrappy bunch.”

Joey Vivieros tossed a complete game. In the 71-pitch performance, he struck out seven and allowed only four hits.

With the win, Foley will face Prospect on Thursday in Seymour at 5:45 p.m. The winner will advance to face either Seymour or Shelton-National on July 11 at Sunnyside Field in Shelton. The loser will face the winner of the Derby-Water-Oak game on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Nolan Field in Ansonia.

Prospect exploded for seven runs in the sixth and final inning in a 12-7 win over Union City.

Tyler Boisvert smacked the go-ahead, two-run hit in the sixth to score Sean McAllen and Zach Powanda. McAllen and Boisvert had three hits each, while Brian Sardinskas had two hits.

McAllen won the game for Prospect, while Kyle Searles closed out the game in the sixth.

“We’re looking forward to facing Foley,” said Prospect manager Larry Fitzgerald, who noted the two leagues have not played in several years. “Our team is playing well.”

Andrew Rivera pitched into the sixth for Union City before Prospect started its rally. Nick Soucy had a two-run homer in the sixth for Union City.

Zach Monk, Evan Bombery and Kyle Torok had two hits each, while David Verrilli added a bunt single and Patrick Hughes added a hit.

Union City will face Ansonia on Thursday at Nike Field in Shelton at 5:45 p.m. Both teams have one loss.

Beacon Falls was eliminated from the tournament on Tuesday following a 13-7 loss to Derby.
