Both the Naugatuck Greyhounds and Woodland Hawks stayed perfect in the Naugatuck Valley League Copper Division with double-digit wins over divisional opponents this weekend.

The Hounds beat Sacred Heart, 46-34, Friday night at Municipal Stadium before the Hawks traveled to Torrington Saturday and came away with a 30-20 win.

Naugy scored seven times, each of which came via the run, and intercepted five passes to improve its record to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the NVL Copper. Jake Yourison scored on runs of 27 and 11 yards in the first quarter while Andrew Cirino added touchdown rushes of nine and 38 yards. Dashawn Wingate found the end zone twice in the second quarter on short runs, and quarterback Erich Broadrick completed 13 of 18 passes for 160 yards and also ran for a 2-yard touchdown.

Woodland rallied from a 14-12 deficit at halftime to outscore the Raiders, 18-6 in the second half for an important divisional win. The Hawks forced two turnovers in the fourth quarter, including a 35-yard fumble-return touchdown by Eric Collodel on the third play of the period and an interception by Jake Pinho on Torrington’s last drive to seal the victory. Woodland rushed for over 260 yards in the game and received rushing touchdowns by Jack DeBiase, Craig Genz, and Matt Zaccagnini.

Naugatuck and Woodland could play for the Copper Division championship Nov. 5 in the borough if both teams win their divisional games this week. Naugy is scheduled to face Kennedy Saturday at 11 a.m. at Municipal Stadium while the Hawks are set to host St. Paul Friday night.
