BEACON FALLS — The Woodland indoor track teams are getting ready for the NVL championships on Monday.

Last season, the girls captured their fifth straight NVL indoor track title, while the boys finished second in the league.

The coaches for the girls and the boys teams have seen improvement in results and competitive spirit this winter. Woodland competed at the Shoreline Coaches Meet earlier this month.

“We performed well at the Shoreline Coaches Meet, improving on some state qualifying times and marks,” Woodland girls head coach Jeff Lownds said.

The girls finished 12th out of 32 teams, but the key was to get better.

Jordan Williams took third in the 55 hurdles in 9.40 seconds, while Erika Michie was sixth in the 55 meters in 7.70 seconds. Both had already qualified for the states.

“Our teams work hard in practice daily and they are seeing some positive results,” Lownds added.

The boys produced a new state qualifying time in the 4×800 meters at the Shoreline meet. Isaiah Miller, Cedric Benoit, Matt Luxeder and Chris Barrows ran the event.

The boys finished fifth at the Shoreline meet, and Woodland boys head coach Bill Ferrare expects all the relay events to be competitive at the NVLs.

“The team has been competing well throughout the season,” Ferrare said. “Athletes’ times have improved since the start of the season, and we look forward to being very competitive in the NVL Championship meet.”

Woodland had one final tune-up last weekend at the Haddam-Killingworth meet.
