BEACON FALLS — No. 10-seeded Woodland cruised past No. 23 Kaynor Tech, 19-3, Tuesday in Class M state tournament first-round action.

Samantha Lee and Steph Kiley combined to toss a two-hitter with eight strikeouts. Natalie Veneri led the Hawks’ offensive attack with three hits, two RBI and three runs scored, while Rachel Starkey added two hits and three RBI. Samantha White tripled twice and drove in six runs for the Hawks.

Woodland advanced to Thursday’s second round and will play at No. 7 Lauralton Hall at 4 p.m.
