NAUGATUCK — As they approach the final leg of the season, the Greyhounds haven’t lost any momentum.

On a night that saw sub-par conditions — to put it nicely — Naugatuck extended its winning streak to five with a 46-14 thrashing of Crosby on Oct. 27.

The Greyhounds (6-1) started off slowly under the cold rain that fell on Veterans Field. Naugatuck couldn’t find its way into the end zone in the first quarter. Crosby’s Jaedon Wolfe maneuvered through the Naugatuck defense to score a 73-yard touchdown on a pass from Mike Marshall to give the Bulldogs their only lead on the night at 8-0.

The Bulldogs (2-4) wouldn’t score any more points until the third quarter, when Donter Detanto rushed for a 10-yard touchdown, but by that time the game was virtually out of reach.

The ‘Hounds entered the second quarter with the game quite literally in the hands of quarterback of Mike Plasky. Plasky, who completed 10 of 18 passes for 394 yards and accounted for all six touchdowns, scored three touchdowns in the second quarter to give the Greyhounds a 24-8 lead at halftime.

For weeks, Naugatuck head coach Craig Bruno has been praising the junior’s improvement, stating that Plasky has continued to prove his mettle week after week.

“He (Plasky) really had a good game, and he just keeps getting better, and we’re enjoying the improvement and the way he handles himself as a quarterback, definitely becoming a leader on the team,” Bruno said. “There’s always a pretty big jump from your sophomore (year) to your junior year, especially when you get a chance to start sophomore year.”

Plasky connected with senior Jalen Datil two times for touchdowns in the second quarter. The Plasky-Datil duo connected on a 38-yard touchdown to tie the game up. Plasky scored off a 15-yard halfback pass from Tyler Deitelbaum to give the Greyhounds the lead before hitting Plasky for a 39-yard touchdown before the half.

The second half contained more of the same offensive plan, as Plasky connected with Datil one final time and Dan Oladapo twice to seal the deal.

Naugatuck will visit Wolcott (5-2) on Friday for the NVL Iron Division championship.
