Divers take their shot at states

Fresh off his third straight Naugatuck Valley League diving title, Woodland’s Riley Clark registered a fourth-place finish at the Class S championship meet March 7 at Plainville High.

Clark, who also placed fourth in 2018, racked up 333.90 points in the 11-dive meet. Holy Cross’ Marcas Racevicius, the diver whom Clark rallied past to win the NVL title last month, won the Class S title with 379.05 points.

Two Naugatuck divers also competed in the Class L championship meet March 6 at East Hartford High. Ethan Phaneuf placed 14th with 280.30 points, and Justin Stone was right behind him in 15th with 259.60 points. New Canaan’s James Ragusa claimed the championship with 483.50 points.

The conclusion of the state championship meets were set for March 11. The Class L swim finals were scheduled to be held at Southern Connecticut State, while the Class S swim finals were set for Wesleyan.
