BEACON FALLS — The Woodland Regional High School boys swim
team booster club is hosting a Mutual of Omaha Breakout! Swim Clinic in December.

The clinic was developed by Olympic gold medalist Josh Davis. Two Olympians will be on hand for the clinic as well.

Christine Hinckley, a member of the booster club, said the two Olympians, Ian Crocker and Kristy Kowal, will have a meet and greet with swimmers, sign autographs and then provide instruction in the pool.

Hinckley said the event is about motivation as much as it is about proper swimming technique.

“It’s definitely a learning clinic, about yourself and life as much as about swimming,” Hinckley said. “To me, it is more so about being able to listen to [the Olympians’] stories, than to be corrected in swim strokes. They talk about how hard they work to get where they are. The swimmers get to hear their stories and to see they are normal people.”

Hinckley said she first saw the clinic in New York City when she took her daughter Julie, a sophomore who swims on the boys team.

“I was very impressed with it. I said, ‘Why don’t we get them to come here,’” Hinckley said.

The clinic, which is for experienced swimmers, is Dec. 6 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Woodland, 135 Back Rimmon Road. The registration fee is $85 before Nov. 15 and $100 after. To register, contact Audra Dyckman at amd6267@yahoo.com or (203) 725-7376 or Christine Hinckley at kjcrhinckley@comcast.net or (203) 494-8086.
