WEST HAVEN — Justin Willis tallied three first-quarter touchdowns—a trio of runs that alone totaled 102 rushing yards—and Notre Dame-West Haven (4-1) pummeled injury-riddled Naugatuck (2-3), 42-8, Friday night at Veterans Stadium.

The Green Knights scored all 42 points in the first half; they relented over the final two quarters, avoiding flirtation with the CIAC’s 50-point margin-of-victory limit. The Greyhounds’ lone TD came with 28 seconds to play, with the reserves on the field. Nick Kosa recorded his first varsity touchdown on a 1-yard run, and backup quarterback Garrett Piccirillo connected with Anthony Rosato for the two-point conversion.

Sophomore fullback Jake Yourison rushed for 98 yards on 16 carries.

Naugy was playing without six two-way starters and it showed, as Notre Dame mounted touchdown drives on each of its first six possessions. The powerful ND offense piled up 388 yards in the first half, hitting the 40-point mark for the fourth time in five games this season.

The Hounds’ third straight loss virtually knocks them out of Class L playoff contention, but one consolation is the defeat—however lopsided—does not affect their Naugatuck Valley League Copper Division standing. The Garnet and Grey remain 1-1 in the Copper, with four straight division games looming against Sacred Heart and Kennedy at home and Woodland and Holy Cross on the road.
