NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck Pop Warner Mitey-Mites cheerleading team won the large division New England Regional Championship on Nov. 3, and will be heading to Disney World in Florida next month to participate in the Pop Warner National Championships.

The team, led by head coach Jillian Porter, is undefeated in three cheer tournaments this season and has cheered for Pop Warner football teams throughout the season. The Nov. 3 tournament took place at the Tsongas Center arena at UMass Lowell in Massachusetts.

The team is fundraising to help offset the cost of the national competition. A Go Fund Me page has been set up at bit.ly/NaugyMiteyMites.

A pasta dinner fundraiser will also be held to raise money for the girls between 5 and 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 20, at the Naugatuck Elks Lodge, 758 Rubber Ave. Advance tickets can be purchased through parents of girls on the team, the Tax Collector’s Office at Naugatuck Town Hall or by emailing Paul Singley at paulsingley1@gmail.com. Naugatuck High School students interested in receiving volunteer hours by helping to serve food and clean up can also email Singley. Tickets will be sold at the event.

“The girls overcame some major obstacles throughout the season, including injuries and other setbacks,” Porter said. “Their dedication to their teammates, their sport and their community is inspirational. We appreciate the support of the community, which has embraced the girls with open arms. These young athletes are dedicated, motivated and determined; I couldn’t be more proud of them. Go Hounds.”
