NEW HAVEN — The Woodland girls swim team finished in the top 10 of Class S.

The Hawks, who won their second Naugatuck Valley League title in three years, placed sixth at the Class S championship with 260 points Nov. 19 at Southern Connecticut State University. Weston won the championship with 893.5 points.

Sophomore Kyla Behrle posted the best individual finish for the Hawks, taking sixth in the 100 butterfly (1:01.91). She also placed 12th in the 500 freestyle (5:37.69).

A pair of freshmen who are poised to lead the Hawks for the next couple of years made their mark, too. Maura Beltrami finished 11th in the 100 butterfly (1:03.77) and 16th in the 200 freestyle (2:12.15). Molly Kennedy placed 12th in the 100 freestyle (57.89) and 17th in the 50 freestyle (26.05).

Woodland freshman Ella Bernegger and sophomore Kayleigh Theroux gave the Hawks a boost in the diving event, placing ninth (305.85) and 10th (300.20), respectively.

Senior Morgan Swift led the 200 medley relay team to a seventh-place finish with Behrle, Beltrami and Kennedy in 2:02.21.

Swift was also part of the 200 freestyle relay team with Kennedy and seniors Alexandra Rojcov and Camille Terrell that posted a seventh-place time of 1:50.04. The 400 freestyle relay foursome of senior Casey Brooks, Terrell, Beltrami and Behrle finished ninth in 4:03.22.

Woodland will graduate nine seniors, including Grace Rua, Lauren Avery, Hailey Bernier, Victoria Gugliotti and Mairead Reilly, who helped the Hawks to a 10-2 regular season mark and will leave Woodland as two-time NVL champions.

The Hawks will have a stable core of swimmers from the roster of 33 returning next year to defend their league title.
