WALDORF, Md. — After a brief stint with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, Naugatuck native Pat Dean’s contract was purchased by the Colorado Rockies organization, the Blue Crabs announced May 6.

Dean, a left-hander, reported to the Rockies’ Triple-A affiliate, the Albuquerque Isotopes.

“I’m very excited for Pat Dean going to the Rockies organization, he’s a class act and a very talented young man, we wish him well,” said Blue Crabs manager Stan Cliburn in a news release.

Dean, who was selected in the third round of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft out of Boston College by the Minnesota Twins, pitched six years in the minor leagues for the Minnesota before making his Major League Baseball debut in 2016. Dean spent the past two seasons pitching in Korea with the Kia Tigers of the Korea Baseball Organization and returned home this year to take another shot at pitching in the major leagues.

Dean made six appearances in spring training for the Twins this year before being released on the final day of spring training camp. He then signed with the Blue Crabs. In two starts with the Blue Crabs, Dean struck out 17 batters and allowed just one earned run.
