NEW HAVEN — Naugatuck’s Zach Koslosky cleared the bar at 13 feet, good for eighth place in the pole vault to lead all local athletes at the State Open indoor track meet Feb. 16 at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.

Koslosky, the pole vault runner-up at the Class L meet, topped his performance from the class meet by 6 inches. His 13-foot vault was actually tied for the third-best mark in the field, but he lost a tiebreaker against five other athletes because he missed his first attempt at 13 feet.

The other top-10 finisher among area athletes was Woodland’s Jaden Young, who placed 10th in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3 minutes, 10.74 seconds. She was one of three female athletes from Woodland at the competition. Jasmine Michie was 14th in the shot put (34-9), while Emma Slavin was 16th in the 1,600 (5:29.91).

Kylie Neretich was Naugy’s lone female representative at the meet. She finished tied for 11th in the 55 hurdles with a preliminary time of 9.09 seconds, missing out on the finals by just six one-hundredths of a second.
