MIDDLETOWN — It’s been a while since the Naugatuck boys track team was among the leaders heading down the homestretch of the Class L state championship meet. That is exactly where the Greyhounds found themselves on Tuesday at Middletown High School.

Through seven events, the boys were in fourth place and ended up finishing seventh with 43 points among the field of 22 teams. Hall of West Haven took home the team championship with 73 points.

Senior Aren Seeger led the way, scoring 23 of the Greyhounds’ 43 points. Seeger won the Class L championship in the 110 hurdles in 14.90 and finished runner-up in the 300 hurdles (40.44) and the long jump (21-7.5).

Junior Zack Koslosky added to Naugy’s scoring with 11 points, finishing runner-up in the pole vault (13.0) and sixth in the 110 hurdles (16.06).

Junior Shane Carey finished in the scoring with an eighth-place effort in the triple jump (40-9.75). Sophomore Isaiah Williams placed sixth in the javelin (141-5). Junior Ben Healy scored in the triple jump, landing a seventh-place effort of 41-1.

The 4×800 relay team of Ross Via, Elliot Via, Jonathon Volpe and Bryce Cegielski also broke into the top ten with a ninth-place finish.

The Naugy girls team scored in only one of 18 events and finished 25th but did show signs of what is to come with a few girls breaking into the top ten. Windsor won the girls team title with 92 points.

The girls team scored in the 4×100 relay with a foursome that represents the future of the track team. Three sophomores, Loren Quarles, Paige Cruz and Rachel Huculak, teamed up with junior Brianna Haye to finish eighth in 52.23.

The 4×400 relay squad of Haye and Huculak and juniors Evelyn Diaz and Julia Dudek fell 0.5 seconds short of the scoring and finished ninth in 4:18.94. Junior Kimani Grey added a top ten finish in the high jump, finishing ninth (4-8).
