Puc makes Chase cross country history

WATERBURY — Chase Collegiate School sophomore Ethan Puc, a Naugatuck resident, helped Chase to a successful cross country season.

Puc placed second in the Canterbury Invitational and made Chase history by winning the Marianapolis Invitational early in the season.

After setting a new personal record and achieving All-City status, Puc set the HVAL championship course record at 18:43, 27 seconds less than the previous record, and earned All-HVAL status.

Puc finished second at the New England championships on Nov. 11. It was the highest finish by a Chase runner at the New England championships in school history. The team finished seventh overall.

McAllen earns football honors at WPI

WORCESTER, Mass. — Worcester Polytechnic Institute sophomore running back Sean McAllen earned a spot on the 2017 New England Football Writers Division II/III All-New England team.

McAllen, a Prospect resident and Woodland Regional High School graduate, was the Liberty League Rookie of the Year and an All-Conference second team member in 2016. He was named to the NEWMAC All-Conference football team this year.

McAllen eclipsed 100 yards seven times with a career-high 246 in the opener this season versus Anna Maria to go with 237 yards and two scores as a receiver.

McAllen owns the Engineers’ single season rushing record with 1,368 yards. He is also second in yards per game (124.4), rushing touchdowns (15) and third in yards per rush (5.7), a press release stated.

Basketball school hosting program at armory

NAUGATUCK — The Rick Barry Basketball School in conjunction with the Naugatuck Park and Recreation Department will run a basketball camp at the former armory.

The program, which is designed for boys and girls ages 5 through 9, starts on Dec. 10 and runs on Sundays until Feb. 4 at the armory, 607 Rubber Ave. There are two available times, 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. or 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

The program utilizes lower baskets, a smaller ball and stresses fundamentals. The registration fee is $135. For more information or to register, visit to www.futurestarssportsacademy.
