NAUGATUCK — Naugatuck dropped from the No. 1 ranking in Class LL to the No. 5 seed following the Greyhounds’ 46-28 loss to Ansonia on Thanksgiving.

The Greyhounds (9-1) will play No. 4 South Windsor (9-1) on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the Class LL playoffs. The game will be played at East Hartford High School because South Windsor doesn’t have lights for the school’s football field.

The winner will play the winner of the game between No. 1 Greenwich (10-0) and No.8 Fairfield Prep (8-2) on Dec. 3 at 12:30 p.m. at the higher seed’s field.

“We’re never pleased about a loss, that’s for sure,” said Naugatuck head coach Dave Sollazzo after the Ansonia game. “But we’re focused on the next season, which is the state playoffs. I’m excited. Why wouldn’t I be? I just told the team we have another chance to prove ourselves.”

Naugy is making its first postseason appearance since 2009, when it narrowly lost to New Canaan in the quarterfinals. The previous postseason appearance was in 2001, when the Greyhounds lost to Greenwich.
