Prospect Soccer Club holding tryouts

PROSPECT — Prospect Soccer Club is holding boys and girls premier soccer tryouts for the 2017-18 season June 5 through June 8 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Hotchkiss Field, 57 Waterbury Road.

Tryouts for boys born from 2006 to 2008 are June 5. Tryouts for boys born from 2003 to 2005 and girls born from 2003 to 2004 are June 6. Tryouts for boys born from 2001 to 2002 and girls born from 2000 to 2002 are June 7. Tryouts for girls born from 20065 to 2008 are June 8.

Dietz wins Jacobs Award

COLCHESTER, Vt. — Patrick Dietz, a Prospect resident and senior on the Saint Michael’s College men’s tennis team, was named one of the college’s George “Doc” Jacobs Award winners.

The award recognizes individuals who make a truly outstanding contribution to the athletics program, regardless of athletic ability.

Dietz was a four-year member of the men’s tennis team, and landed on the NE10 Commissioner’s Honor Roll five different semesters. Dietz was also a member of the athletic department operations staff all four years, taking on various leadership roles and serving as a lifeguard.

McAllen earns McNulty Award

WORCESTER, Mass. — Prospect resident Sean McAllen, a freshman at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute, recently received The Charles R. McNulty Award during the WPI athletic department’s annual banquet.

The Charles R. McNulty Award is presented to the outstanding male athlete in the freshman class

McAllen earned Liberty League Rookie of the Year and All-Liberty League Second Team honors to go with Worcester Area Football Association Freshman of the Year and a first team nod at running back.

McAllen was third in the league in rushing attempts (170), fifth in yards (701) and eighth in average yards per game (70.1). He ran for a season-best 215 yards on 29 carries with a pair of touchdowns in the season-opener at MIT.

Golden Glove Club holding camp

NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck Softball Golden Glove Club will be holding its annual Summer Softball Camp from June 19 to June 23 at Naugatuck High School.

Future Greyhounds Baseball Camp set

NAUGATUCK — The Future Greyhounds Baseball Camp is June 26 to June 30 at Naugatuck High School.

The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is open to boys and girls ages 5 to 14. The cost of the camp is $85 per player. Members of the Naugatuck Baseball League Inc. receive a $10 discount.
