BEACON FALLS — The Woodland boys swimming and diving team is focusing on finishing the regular season strong.

“We are looking on track to finish well,” Woodland head coach Tom Currier said. “The kids are close to in-season times, if not faster than, just not end-of-the-season times. They are looking strong at practice, now we just have to transfer practice swims to meet swims.”

The Hawks dropped their meet against Watertown, 94-82, on Feb. 1.

Zack Arisian took first in the 100 butterfly (1:06.73) against Watertown, and Julie Hinckley won the 500 freestyle (5:52.52).

Woodland’s Riley Clark won the diving event with a score of 255.35, a new school record. Clark has set the diving record three times this season.

Clark has already punched his ticket to the Class S state meet in diving, and Jake Stow recently qualified, as well, in the 100 backstroke.

Woodland fell to two-time defending NVL champion Holy Cross, 94-81, on Wednesday.

The Hawks (3-8) will take on Oxford Feb. 14 in their final meet of the regular season before preparing for the NVL championship meet.

Currier said the Hawks are starting to focus on specific training for their individual events with an emphasis on speed and power.

“Everyone is looking strong and on par for a good finish,” Currier said.
