Dozens of local athletes saw action at colleges and universities throughout the state, region and country this fall. We’ve done our best to round up all the action here, but if we’ve missed an athlete then please send us an email at editor@mycitizensnews.com and we will include that information in an upcoming edition. Winter athletes (basketball, swimming and diving, indoor track) will be included in our winter wrap-up later this season.

Alexya Alves, Albertus Magnus College soccer: Alves, Naugatuck High’s career leader in goals, scored six goals and added three assists as a forward for the Falcons this fall.

Callah Baranowski, Post University soccer: Baranowski started all 14 games in net as a sophomore for Post University. She made 92 saves and recorded two shutouts while allowing 27 goals in 14 games for the Eagles (4-9-1).

Adam Branco, Stonehill College soccer: Branco, Naugatuck’s all-time leading scorer, is a two-time Northeast-10 Commissioners honor roll academic for Stonehill College. In his junior season, he was named to the Catholic Cup All-Tournament team and scored eight goals with one assist for the Skyhawks (7-10).

Michael Campos, Elms College soccer: Campos started in 18 of 19 games played and recorded an assist as a freshman midfielder for Elms College.

Taylor Campos, American International College soccer: Campos finished her second season as a defender for the Yellowjackets (12-8-1).

Alexa Casimiro, University of Connecticut soccer: Casimiro played in 21 games with 12 starts and scored two goals for the Huskies.

Bryan Coney, University of Connecticut football: Naugatuck High’s career leader in receptions, yards and touchdowns just completed his second year with the Huskies as a redshirted freshman. He had two assists on tackles as a member of the special teams.

Kieran DeBiase, Southern Connecticut State University soccer: The two time All-State player at Woodland, was named to the Northeast-10 Conference First Team in her senior season. She started in 16 of 19 games and scored two goals with three assists for the Owls (9-7-3).

Clara Drozdowski, Central Connecticut State University cross country: Drozdowski recently completed her freshman season as a member of the Blue Devils’ cross country team.

Michael Erickson, Post University golf: Erickson completed the fall season for Post University. The sophomore posted his best finish with a season low 71-74 (145 total), which was good for ninth place at the FPU Invitational in Keene, N.H. in early September.

Levi Fancher, Assumption College football: Fancher, Woodland’s career leader in tackles and sacks, has been a stalwart defender for Assumption. The junior linebacker helped lead the Greyhounds to a 9-3 record with 63 total tackles and earned student-athlete honors studying biotechnology and molecular biology.

Shae Geary, Virginia Wesleyan College soccer: Geary played seven games with two starts in her freshman season for the Marlins as a defender. She recorded her first collegiate goal in a win over Sweet Briar College.

Jasmine Grey, Western Connecticut State University soccer: Grey, a freshman defensive back for Western Connecticut State University, helped the Colonials to a 15-6-2 record and the Little East Conference title.

Ryne Griesenauer, Southern Connecticut State University football: Griesenauer, a junior tight end, played 10 games for the Owls (6-5) and caught nine passes for 127 yards and three touchdowns. He was also named to the NCAA Division II CoSIDA Academic All-District team with a 3.82 GPA.

Brody Hale, Norwich University cross country: Hale, a sophomore, finished third to help the Cadets win their second consecutive Great Northeast Athletic Conference title. He ran a personal best at the NCAA New England Regional Championship and finished 57th to lead Norwich to a university-best 13th place finish.

Kelly Kosolsky, American International College soccer: Kosolsky was a junior captain and defender for the Yellowjackets (12-8-1).

Sean McAllen, Worchester Polytechnic Institute football: Woodland’s all-time leading rusher was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Year as a freshman for Worchester Polytechnic Institute. He rushed for 701 yards and five touchdowns for the Engineers (6-4) and earned All Liberty Second Team honors.

Andrea Mercer, Johnson State University soccer: Mercer was a key player as a freshman defender for the Badgers of the North Atlantic Conference. She started in 14 of 15 games and had one assist.

Kelsey Mitchell, University of New Haven cross country: Mitchell, a freshman, posted the third fastest time on the team for the Chargers in the Ted Owen cross country Invitational meet in September.

Vigan Pacuku, Western Connecticut State University soccer: Pacuku finished his senior season for the Colonials as a defender starting in 14 of 16 games. He scored one goal and added an assist.

Mick Pernell, Salve Regina University football: Pernell, Naugatuck High’s single-season touchdown record holder, helped the Seahawks to an 8-2 season. The junior receiver caught 10 passes for 185 yards.

Angelina Piccirillo, Albertus Magnus College soccer: Piccirillo earned NSCAA All New England team honors this fall. The junior midfielder scored six goals and had two assists. Each of her goals in Great Northeast Athletic Conference games were game winners for the Falcons (11-8-1).

Jack Pinho, Springfield College cross country: Pinho ran to 18th as the sophomore helped Springfield College win the NEMWAC cross country championship.

Chris Quarles, Western New England University football: Quarles helped the Bears to an 11-1 record as a defensive standout. The sophomore had 24 tackles, and assisted on 17 more, two interceptions and broke up four passes in 11 games.

Brian Sardinskas, Merrimack University cross country: Sardinskas finished his freshman season with a 102nd-place finish to help Merrimack University take sixth at in the Northeast-10 cross country championship.

Dan Schumacher, Columbia University cross country: Schumacher helped Columbia University win the ECAC cross country championship as five Lions finished in the top ten. Schumacher, a sophomore, placed ninth (26:09) in the 8K race.

Ygor Silva, Post University soccer: Silva scored one goal in 14 games played as a sophomore midfielder for the Eagles (7-8-5).

Marcos Soares, Western Connecticut State University soccer: Soares started in eight of 12 games played and helped the Colonials to a 6-11-1 record as a forward.

Emily Trumbley, Western New England University swimming: Trumbley, a two-time CCC All-Academic team honoree and last season’s Coach’s Award recipient, is in her senior season for Western New England University. Recently, she helped the Bears defeat the University of Rhode Island, 122-82, winning the 200 backstroke and finishing second in the 50 backstroke.
