Pretto named to All-American rowing team

HARTFORD — Trinity College women’s rowing senior Cristina Pretto, of Prospect, was named to the 2016 Pocock All-American First Team by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association.

Pretto was also named to the 2016 New England Small College Athletic Conference All-Conference Team. She received All-NESCAC First Team honors.

Pretto, a two-year starter on Trinity’s varsity eight, earned a gold medal with that boat in the 2015 NCAA Division III Championship Regatta and a bronze medal at the Eastern College Athletic Conference National Invitational Regatta.

Naugatuck Senior Babe Ruth earn wins over Danbury, Watertown

NAUGATUCK — Naugatuck Senior Babe Ruth topped Watertown and Danbury last week.

Naugatuck defeated Danbury, 9-1, Saturday. Chris Ferrara and Tyler Carreira combined in a two-hitter with six strikeouts to lead Naugatuck as it improved to 8-3.

Blake Hess and Brian Drapeau had three hits each, while Ferrara added two hits and three RBI.

Evan Pellicia also contributed with a single and two RBI.

On June 30, Naugatuck beat Watertown, 9-3.

Hess and Yacavone had two RBI each for Naugatuck. Pellicia had four hits, and Austin DeRosa added two hits.

Booster club holding swim clinic

BEACON FALLS — The Woodland Dive-In Booster Club is sponsoring two week swim clinics.

The clinics are Aug. 8 to Aug. 12 and Aug. 15 to Aug. 19 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Woodland Regional High School.

The clinics are for competitive swimmers entering grades nine through 12, and emphasize stroke technique, speed drills and conditioning. The cost is $125 per week. A family discount of $25 is available for two or more simmers.
