Mo’s Moments of the Week

Records are meant to be broken

Running back Sean Allen led the Woodland Hawks to a 50-24 win over Naugatuck to bring back home the George Pinho Trophy. The senior captain also left his mark in a special way setting two new schools records rushing for 462 yards and six touchdowns.

Defense win championships

The Woodland girls soccer team completed an amazing season in the NVL winning their first league championship since 2004 going 18-0-1. Senior captain and defender Shae Geary was named NVL tournament MVP and played a huge role leading a defense that allowed just nine goals on the season and only five over the last 15 games while shutting out 11 opponents.

Inspirational MVP

The Woodland girls volleyball team won the NVL championship for the second time in the last three years. The Hawks senior captain and libero Cameron Caswell was named the tournament MVP and it was her inspired play in the back row that led the Hawks to its third straight title game.

They can’t win if they don’t score

The Naugatuck boys soccer team wrapped up its third straight NVL title and showed what defending a title is all about. Senior captain Felipe Dutra was named the tournament MVP, and rightfully so. Dutra led a defense that allowed zero goals in the tournament. In the championship game against Woodland, the defense allowed zero shots on goal.

Go-ahead goal

Naugatuck senior captain Andrew Carroll broke the scoreless tie in the NVL championship game Nov. 4 versus Woodland when he raced in and got one to go just inside the post with 33 minutes left in the game. The ‘Hounds didn’t need much scoring during the tournament with a defense that shutdown opponents and got enough goals to keep them in the driver’s seat.
