Naugy Notes

Boys swimming

The Greyhounds are coming down the homestretch of the regular season. On Feb. 11 Naugatuck tied Torrington, 85-85. Event winners for Naugy were Michael Cocchiola in the 50 freestyle (24.37) and Evan Bombery in the 500 freestyle (5:27.12). The Greyhounds were scheduled to swim against Crosby Tuesday night. Results from the meet weren’t reported. Naugatuck will host Masuk on Friday and Watertown Feb. 24 to close out the regular season. Trials for the NVL meet are March 3, followed by the diving final March 4 and the swim final March 6 at Kennedy High School.

Girls basketball

Naugatuck wrapped up its season this week. On Feb. 12, Naugatuck fell to Torrington, 57-24. Jackie Aronin had a team-high seven points for Naugy. On Tuesday, the Greyhounds fell to Wolcott, 48-27, on the road. Alyssa Peterson led Naugy with six points and Aronin added five. In a rematch with Torrington Wednesday night, the red raiders came out on top again, 74-34. Aronin and Molly Kennedy each dropped in eight points for Naugatuck (2-18).

Boys swimming

The Hawks wrapped up the regular season with a home meet Feb. 13 versus Torrington. The Red Raiders won the meet, 94-79. Event winners for Woodland included Aidan Music in the 200 IM (2:14.55) and 100 breaststroke (1:08.46), James Jensen in the 100 butterfly (1:04.88) and Julie Hinckley in the 500 freestyle (5:56.44). The 200 medley relay team (Jensen, Donovan White, Music and J.D. Dyckman), 200 free relay team (Music. Colin Kennelly, Dyckman and Jensen) and the 400 free relay squad (Hinckley, Zach Bellevance, Kennelly and Jake Stow) all took first place as well. Woodland will now turn its attention to the NVL meet. NVL trials are March 3, followed by the diving final March 4 and the swim final March 6 at Kennedy High School.

Girls basketball

The Hawks ended the season with two games versus Wolcott last week. Wolcott won both games. On Feb. 11 Wolcott beat Woodland, 60-44. Carla Piccolo had a team-high 15 points for the Hawks, including three, three-pointers. Becky Hale and Maddie Hupprich added eight each. On Feb. 13, the Hawks fell 41-36. Hale had 22 points for Woodland (5-15) and Cameron Caswell added eight.
