Girls soccer

The Hawks remained hot heading into the NVL tournament. Woodland (13-3) defeated Watertown Oct. 17 4-0. Jessica Rodrigues recorded all four goals for Woodland. Savannah Aviz had two assists for the Hawks, and Alexa Casimiro had one. Jenna Pannone made 10 saves. On Monday, the Hawks cruised past Derby 7-0. Shae Geary scored two goals for the Hawks. Casimiro, Sonia Sousa, Rodrigues and Erin Machado each had one goal. Pannone made one save for the shutout. Woodland finished the regular season Wednesday with a 2-0 win over Seymour. Rosalina Santos and Rodrigues scored a goal apiece to lead the Hawks. Pannone made two saves. The NVL tournament quarterfinals are scheduled to start on Saturday. The Hawks earned the No. 3 seed and will face No. 6 Ansonia at 2 p.m. at Naugatuck High School.

Girls swimming

Woodland swam past St. Paul 84-68 Oct. 15. Event winners included The 200 medley relay team (Sarah Bryden, Lisa Thrasher, Emma Sardinskas and Tatianna Lynn), Bryden (50 free, Sara Fowler (Diving), Veronica Dergachev (500 free) and the 200 free relay team (Bryden, Brooke Pope, Thrasher and Lynn). The Hawks visited Masuk Oct. 17. Results from this meet weren’t reported. Woodland closed out the season Monday with a 90-78 victory over Kennedy. Event winners included Sardinskas (200 free, 500 free), Pope (200 IM) and Thrasher (100 free). The Hawks will now prepare for the NVLs. The NVL diving championships are Oct. 30 at Kennedy High School in Waterbury. The NVL swim championships are Nov. 1 at Kennedy.

Naugy Notes

Girls Soccer

The Greyhounds finished the season with three consecutive wins. Naugatuck (9-7) defeated Wolcott 3-1 Oct. 17 and Ansonia 4-1 Monday night. Sara Marques scored three times for the Greyhounds versus Wolcott and Sophie Boucher made five saves. Against Ansonia, Suzanna Amaral scored twice, and Marques added a goal and an assist for Naugatuck. Taylor Campos added a score for Naugy as well and Boucher made six saves. The Greyhounds closed the regular season with a 5-4 overtime win over Sacred Heart on Wednesday. Kyla Magalhaes scored three goals, including one midway through the first overtime period, for the Greyhounds. Amaral and Campos also scored for Naugy. Boucher made seven saves. The NVL tournament quarterfinals are scheduled to start on Saturday. Naugatuck is the No. 5 seed and will face No. 4 Watertown at Watertown High School at 2 p.m.

Girls swimming

The Greyhounds were too much to handle for Torrington Oct. 17 as Naugy swam past the Red Raiders 92-78. Event winners included Cara Rotatori (200 free, 100 free), Tathiana Serrano (50 free), Addison Best (500 free) and the 200 free relay team (Alexandra Silva, Elizabeth Tuscano, Olivia Filanowski, Tathiana Serrano). Naugy fell on the road 96-82 to Masuk on Wednesday. Event winners included Serrano (100 free) and the 200 free relay team (Alexandra Silva, Filanowski, Erica Spino, Serrano). The Greyhounds will end the regular season Friday when the host Holy Cross. Naugy will then turn its focus to preparing for the NVLs. The NVL diving championships are Oct. 30 at Kennedy High School in Waterbury. The NVL swim championships are Nov. 1 at Kennedy.
